Episode #27: What is Focus? of my Train Your Mind for Athletic Success podcast is the first of two episodes in which I explore the impact of focus on sports performance.

Focus is the most misunderstood mental factor among athletes. Most athletes think of focus as concentrating on one thing for a long time. Simply put, focus involves paying attention. In sports, you can focus on things that help you perform well such as technique or tactics. Or you can focus on things that distract you, such as who’s watching, what will happen if you win or lose, or negative thoughts about your upcoming performance. Prime focus involves focusing only on things that will help you perform your best and avoid distractions that hurt performance.
