In my\u00a0recent post<\/a>, I argue that opportunity costs (time spent doing one thing is time not spent doing other things) may be the greatest threat from technology.<\/p>\n

A friend just sent me this video titled\u00a0Look Up<\/a>\u00a0that powerfully demonstrates what we miss\u2013life, love, beauty, opportunity!\u2013when we immerse excessively in technology.<\/p>\n

Here are a few great lines from the video:<\/p>\n

“I have 422 ‘friends’, yet I am lonely.”<\/p>\n

“This media we call social is anything but.”<\/p>\n

“When we open up our computers and it’s the doors that we shut.”<\/p>\n

“When you’re in public and start to feel alone, step away from the phone.”<\/p>\n

“We’re a generation of idiots, smartphones and dumb people.”<\/p>\n

“You don’t have to tell hundreds of what you’ve just done because you want to share this moment with just this one.”<\/p>\n

“The time you take in all you made just by giving life attention and how you’re glad you didn’t waste it by looking down at some invention.”<\/p>\n

“It’s not very likely you’ll make world’s greatest dad, if you can’t entertain a child without using an iPad.”<\/p>\n

“Don’t waste your life getting caught in the ‘Net because when the end comes, there’s nothing worse than regret.”<\/p>\n

“Give people your love, don’t give them your ‘like.’<\/p>\n

“Look up from your phone shut down that display, stop watching this video, live life the real way.”<\/p>\n

It is about 5 minutes long, but worth every moment. It truly brought me to tears by the end. Pay special attention to the scenes at 2:25 and 3:55. The juxtaposition is heart wrenching.<\/p>\n

P.S. I totally appreciate the irony that you have learned about this video through technology.<\/p>\n
